At the twelfth round of the World Superbike Championship at the Vallelunga circuit near Rome, Noriyuki Haga claimed the chequered flag in both races on the Yamaha Motor Italia WSB.

Race One

Haga battled with Max Biaggi on the Sterilgarda Go Eleven Ducati and team-mate Troy Corser to claim his fifth victory of the season.

Biaggi finished in second place in front of his home crowd with Corser in third followed by Max Neukirchner in fourth on the Alstare Suzuki after a terrible start.

Carlos Checa on the Hanspree Ten Kate Honda finished in fifth place ahead of Championship leader Troy Bayliss on the Xerox Ducati in sixth, after taking the lead at the start but struggled with a bad choice of tyre.

In seventh place in front of his home crowd was Michel Fabrizio on the second Xerox Ducati followed by Roberto Rolfo on the Hanspree Honda Althea, who stalled on the grid but managed to make up the places.

Karl Muggeridge slid off the track on his Honda taking the Hanspree Ten Kate Honda rider Sofuoglu with him while his team-mate Ryuichi Kiyonari crashed out at the same spot.

Race Two

Haga again had a battle on his hands as Bayliss stayed on his tail until he crashed out on the final lap at the hairpin.

Fabrizio claimed an impressive second snatched from Corser on the ultimate lap with Neukirchner and Checa again finishing in fourth and fifth places respectively.

Fonsi Nieto for Suzuki was in sixth followed by Yukio Kagayama on the Suzuki in seventh place, Shinichi Nakatomi on the Yamaha in eighth and Regis Laconi in ninth.

Biaggi crashed with Kenan Sofuoglu at the beginning of the race, Biaggi was unhurt while Sofuoglu suffered a bruised pelvis.
