Spanish World Superbike rider Ruben Xaus, underwent a successful operation on his right femur in a Barcelona hospital yesterday.
The BMW Motorrad rider, has had three screws inserted to hold the femur in place and was discharged today ready to begin physiotherapy at a rehabilitation centre this week.
The rider is resting in an apartment, near to the sports clininc in ‘Playa de Aro’, to the North of Barcelona. He is currently on crutches but confirmed that he can already get around without problem but is unable to put any weight on the leg at the moment.
Xaus high-sided off his machine at the Brno circuit last weekend on the opening lap, blaming the injury on the compact gravel, which the rain had set hard. He felt that if the gravel had been raked over prior to the race, he would most likely have walked away from the crash.
Xaus added;
“It’s good that we have a bit of a break before the next race, but I’m already looking forward to being back at the track. I want to say thank you to the whole team for all their good wishes and tell them to have a good holiday and then get my bikes ready for my return.”
