It was confirmed on Sunday by the Gauteng Provincial Government in South Africa that they will be holding a round of the World Superbike Championship for 2009.

The round is likely to be 15-17 May 2009 at the Kyalami Grand Prix circuit in Johannesburg for the first time since 2002.

The Gauteng Premier, Mbhazima Shilowa said,

“This event will assist in establishing the brand image of Gauteng as a home for competitive sport.  It will attract investment and promote tourism which in turn will help us to grow the economy of province, deal with property and unemployment.”
