The 2010 crowned World Superbike Champion Ben Spies is ready for his wild-card ride this weekend at the MotoGP finale in Valencia, Spain.
The Sterilgarda Yamaha rider ended his rookie season in the World Superbike series the way he intended and is now ready to step-up the pace as a MotoGP rider. He will begin testing for his new Tech3 Yamaha team on Monday but is aiming for a top ten finish on Sunday.
Spies will be riding the Yamaha YZR-M1 featuring a one-off special livery for the race and with the number 11 in place of his usual number 19. American fans will be familiar with the number as that was the one he had in the AMA Superbike series prior to winning championships.
Spies said;
“I’m really excited for the opportunity to race at Valencia this weekend. I’m fully aware that MotoGP is a big step up from World Superbike and realize it’s not going to be possible to achieve the same results in my first year there. I see this weekend as an opportunity to spend some time on the bike and start learning it for next season, and to have some fun as well!”
